Welcome to Neuroradiology

The Neuroradiology department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is dedicated to providing excellent service in our clinical, educational and academic activities. The Division of Neuroradiology, a neuroscience-based specialized and focused branch of the Department of Radiology at UMMC, offers state-of-the-art imaging for the diagnosis of diseases of the brain, head, neck and spine in adult and pediatric patients.

The full range of imaging services are provided by the section including: CT, MRI, CT Angiography, MR Angiography, CT Perfusion, MR perfusion, MR spectroscopy, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, Functional MRI, and Fetal MRI.

The section actively participates in many interdisciplinary meeting including Pediatric Neuro-oncology, Adult Neuro-oncology, Epilepsy, Stroke, and Head and Neck tumor board conference. Our team works closely with our colleagues in the Neurosurgery, Neurology, Oncology, Emergency Room, and Otolaryngology sections.

Our wide array of experience enables us to actively promote clinical and research-based advancement of neuroradiology as we train and mold future neuro-imagers in the state of Mississippi.

We perform leading-edge cranio-spinal axis imaging with advanced stroke imaging. We also provide advanced brain tumor imaging with routine use of diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy and diffusion tensor imaging and pre-surgical tumor mapping.

UMMC is the only facility in the state routinely performing fetal magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and neonatal/pediatric MR imaging with use of general anesthesia.

Neuroradiology faculty members are actively involved as an integral part of various multidisciplinary conferences at UMMC's adult and children's hospitals. This enables comprehensive discussion of specific patient issues with doctors from other specialties, such as oncology, surgery, pathology and radiation oncology. We spearhead, as well as actively support, clinical services and also collaborate with other medical facilities on clinical, translational and basic research. The division also offers an ACGME-accredited neuroradiology fellowship.

Our Neuroradiology fellowship program is currently ACGME-accredited for 1 fellow per year. The fellow rotates through all of the subspecialties of Neuroradiology including Adult Brain, Spine, Pediatric neuroradiology, Head and Neck, and Interventional Neuroradiology. There are also many radiology residents rotating through the neuroradiology sections throughout the year from our ACGME-accredited radiology residency. The division provides weekly conferences to the residents in addition to teaching during clinical rotations to provide them with the experience and knowledge they need to practice radiology in the future.
